By this point in the series you know availability is a demand forecast, not a coin flip. So let's turn that into a calendar you can plan a life around.
Days of the week, ranked
- Tuesday and Wednesday: the golden days. Business travel is light, leisure travel hasn't started, and planes fly with empty rows. If your schedule allows midweek trips, the pass will treat you like royalty.
- Saturday: the sleeper pick. Everyone flies out Friday and back Sunday, which leaves Saturday itself surprisingly open on many routes.
- Monday and Thursday: fine, situational.
- Friday and Sunday: the hardest days, all year, everywhere. Not impossible, but expect slim pickings on popular leisure routes.
Months of the year
The blackout calendar already blocks the biggest holiday peaks, and demand handles the rest:
| Months | GoWild conditions |
|---|---|
| Late January, February | Excellent, planes are empty after the holidays |
| April, May (outside spring break and Memorial Day) | Very good |
| June, July, August | Mixed: high leisure demand, but also peak schedule with the most flights flying |
| September, October | Excellent, the best sustained window of the year |
| November, December (outside blackouts) | Surprisingly good on the non-holiday days |
Time of day matters too
The 6am departure and the 10pm departure are your friends. Nobody wants them, which is exactly why the pass loves them. Red-eye adjacent flying is the tax you pay for $15 airfare, and frankly, sunrise from a window seat is not much of a tax.
If you want the live version of this cheat sheet instead of the seasonal averages, that's what the WildFares calendar view is for: it shows GoWild pricing by date for any route, so you can see the pattern for your specific airport rather than the national trend.
