- Costa Rica, ~$133: possibly the best value-per-tax-dollar on the list given what the destination offers.
- Aruba, ~$143: the cheapest of the premium Caribbean islands, oddly.
- St. Maarten, ~$149: famous plane-spotting beach included at no extra charge.
- Turks and Caicos, ~$163: the outbound is cheap; the return is where they get you.
- Bahamas, ~$171: a $35 outbound and a return leg that can top $135. Great trip, lopsided receipt.
The premium tier ($180+)
- Dominican Republic, ~$184
- Mexico, ~$189: the workhorse destination with the most route options, which for many travelers justifies the tax bill through sheer flexibility.
- Jamaica, ~$200: the most heavily taxed of the bunch.
Even the premium tier embarrasses cash pricing: $200 round trip in taxes to Jamaica on a pass still beats almost any paid fare to Jamaica ever sold. The point of the ranking isn't that Jamaica is a bad deal; it's that Guatemala is an absurd one.
